Elevating Sustainability in Fashion
Engaging customer with circular economy. Material sourcing for sustainability.
A Truly Sustainable Fashion
SPINZY is a fashion brand that creates new clothing from recycled wool and cotton. Its mission is to run a fashion business without any kind of plastic or synthetic materials.
The Case
E-commerce and Circular Economy
When SPINZY decided to open an e-commerce store LX Futures was tasked with the development of the shipping packaging as a part of the ongoing brand design project.
SPINZY does not need 'collateral' but 'reusable' branding materials. For example, the garment labels LX Futures designed are meant to be saved as they contain garment washing instructions.
The Idea
Reusing Shipping Boxes
The idea to do something more around e-commerce shipping was easily born. LX Futures suggested to reuse packaging for collection of the garments for recycling.
The series of workshops with the customers validated this idea and inspired LX Futures to design additional services that deliver value to the customer and the company.
The Challenge
Material Research on Compostability
Developing shipping materials for a sustainable company requires material vetting. The preference was to use compostable or endlessly recyclable materials.
When it came to brand design, the color choice was a compromise between the love for color and what works on an absorbing material like unbleached cardboard.

The Solution
Engaging Customer with Garment Recycling
The e-commerce customers who do not need to return a product can use the SPINZY shipping box to send old cotton and wool products for recycling. There is only one standard box size and it can contain up to 5 square meters of material.
Reducing Customer Hustle
Sending goods for recycling requires less administration than returning purchases. There are no costs or forms to fill in. The shipping box contains two types of stickers (compostable indeed) a customer can use to seal the box. The stickers give an indication whether the box contains returned garment of recyclable garment.

Brick and Mortar Store Services
The customer brainstorm sessions between LX Futures and SPINZY customers facilitated the development of in-store services:
Clothing repair: Customers can bring in any clothing tor repair, it does not need to be a SPINZY product. This is an in store service only because the repair needs to be reviewed by a professional with a realistic view on what is mendable.
Garment Recycling box: Customer can dispose of their old garments in the store.
Replace a button: Losing a button is not a rare phenomenon. SPINZY always includes an extra button with the sold product, but customers can get a new button in store as well.
